How to Draw the Flower of Life

Updated:

Here is a list of what you need to draw the Flower of Life, either online or on paper. Although you create the Flower of Life with precision, it’s very easy to draw. As you draw, you will find it is a work of beauty and symmetry at every stage.

1) You will need a way to draw a same-sized circle over and over again.

  • A compass works best, but if you don’t have one, try a small cup or even a cap to a large bottle.
  • You could also draw it online as I did with Canva. Here is my free Canva template of the precursor to the Fruit of Life to help you get started. To use it, take away circles as needed to get the desired pattern.

2) Some paper and an eraser, if you are drawing by hand.

3) Don’t forget to grab some colored pencils or markers to color your Flower of Life and make it your own.

The Flower of Life is a symbol of the unity and wholeness of the universe. You start with a dot and add 19 congruent circles in a specific geometric pattern. Each stage in drawing the Flower of life holds symbolism and meaning.

1) The  Point

Draw a point.

A point has no dimension, only position. The flower of life begins its creation from a single point.

2) The Circle

Draw the circle so the point is the center of the circle.

Out of the point, out of nothingness, you draw a two-dimensional circle. A circle has no end and represents a never-ending cycle.

A lot of times in math you will see the symbol π (Pi) when it comes to describing circles.

This is because if you divide the circumference of any circle by its diameter, you will get a special ratio. This ratio is Pi (3.1415 ….).

The numbers to the right of the decimal point will keep going without ever ending, like the circle itself.

If you were to start walking around the edge of the circle, you would not find a specific beginning or a specific end. You would keep going around.

3) Vesica Piscis

Now make another circle as pictured below. The center of the new circle is on the border of the old circle (and vice versa)

Vesica Piscis represents the unity of the spiritual with the physical. Another meaning of Vesica Piscis is femininity and birth.

4) Tripod of Life

Now make a third circle. The exact center of the third circle will be where the arrow is pointing

You should end up with a drawing like this, the Tripod of Life

The Tripod of Life contains three Vesica Piscis and represents creativity.

The Tripod of Life is also a union of three circles. This unity has strong symbolism in some religions.

If you look at the triangle in the middle, you’ll see that it is no ordinary triangle. The triangle’s sides curve outward. This is a triangle you would find on the surface of a sphere, so you can say that you drew a spherical triangle.

The earth is a sphere. If you were to draw a giant triangle on the surface of the earth, it would be a spherical triangle.

You started drawing the Tripod of Life in a 2-dimensional representation. This spherical triangle in your drawing is like a peek into a higher realm, into the 3rd dimension.

5) Seed of Life

Now make 2 more circles The centers of each circle will be where the arrows are pointing

Now draw another two circles. The centers of each circle should be where the arrows below are pointing:

You will end up with 7 circles, the Seed of Life.

The Seed of Life symbolizes creation because it is the basis for the Flower of Life. It represents potential and coming growth.

6) Egg of Life

Now add 6 more circles to the outer layer, so there are 13 circles in all.

The Egg of Life symbolizes the emergence of life.

7) Flower of Life

Add on 6 more circles, so there are 19 circles in all, and you have the Flower of Life

The Flower of Life symbolizes the unity of everything and the cycle of life.

Here is the Flower of Life within a gold border.

I created this by making two more rows of circles (see part 1 of the Fruit of Life below). Then I used Photoshop to cut out the excess. I then imported that into Canva and added the gold border.

8) Fruit of Life

Fruit of Life Part 1

Now we can prepare for the Fruit of Life. Take the drawing of the Flower of Life that does not have a border.

Draw two more outer layers of circles.

As you stare at the drawing above, what shapes start to appear to you?

To continue drawing the Fruit of Life, shade in the circles so you make this pattern below. There will be 13 shaded circles.

Remove the circles that are not shaded, so you have this pattern. This is Fruit of Life.

The Fruit of Life is the basis for Metatron’s Cube.

9) Metratron’s Cube

Draw lines so that the center of each circle connects with the center of every other circle.

This will take you some time and care, so be patient!

Now you have a Metatron’s Cube.

Metatron’s Cube contains every Platonic Solid. It is a blueprint for everything in the universe.
